Preliminary program

The program provides attendees with a mix of community perspectives, landholder involvement, technical and scientific input. Held in Kununurra in the East Kimberley of Western Australia the program will provide you with an important opportunity to share knowledge, bring different perspectives to current management challenges and discuss shared futures.

Venue

The Registration Desk and the Conference Sessions will be held in the Kununurra Leisure Centre complex located in the heart of the town. The Centre is a short walk to the majority of the nominated conference accommodation facilities.

Land use planning for multiple users and uses

Keynote by WA Department of Planning on the Kimberley land use planning strategy - accommodating aspirations of different land users and resolving conflicting demands for land. Invited papers on:

  • Development issues and projects in the Kimberley recognising its huge variety of landscapes and habitats.
  • Opportunities for pastoral, agricultural, tourism and mineral development in the Kimberley and the role of Indigenous people in the management and development of the region.
  • Case studies on multiple land use planning and implementation.

Livestock production in Australian rangeland

Keynote: The beef industry in Australia and its future in Australian rangeland. Invited papers on:

  • Impacts of climate and grazing pressure on livestock production systems
  • Case studies on innovative livestock production systems.

Fire management in a carbon economy

  • Managing fire for conservation,carbon capture and pastoral production.
